Notes from STYX on the Road #22
14-Aug-99 Itchycoo Park What a pleasant surprise last night was. Our old friends who promoted the festival did an amazing job with the huge production. There were HDTV screens on stage and 8 cameras in various locations making the show a real sight for even those at the far end of the audience. The heat had been stifling all afternoon as we waited in our hotel nearby, but as the hour approached for us to take the stage, it cooled down enough that the temperature was no longer much of a factor. Because the show was lit for television, we could see you better than ever. What we saw was a gigantic party going on. It was infectious seeing so many people having so much fun. I never saw a single fight. In fact it was uncanny the peaceful carefree vibe we witnessed from our position on the stage. I heard there was a lot of other arts and crafts stuff going on, but we were pretty much confined to our area for the duration of our stay. And as soon as we changed into our traveling clothes, it was time to hop on the bus, Gus, and head for Biloxi. That is where I sit now, watching the storm that just appeared out of nowhere and waiting for sound check in 30 minutes. Another day on tour... And life? Life is better than ever!
