Notes from STYX on the Road #37
26-Oct-99 Hello my fine Friends, As I look out at the Gulf of Mexico from the room at the Perdido Beach Resort here in Orange Beach, I am reminded just how good it is to be on tour. It is touring that always brings me here to go fishing with Capt. Mike Salley on his boat, the "Sure Shot." It is aptly named, for sure. Keith, Billy (our driver) and I headed out yesterday morning around 7:00 AM (quite late for "real" fishermen, but good for rock folk) and though the waters were a bit choppy for the first hour and a half, we still managed to catch our limit in Red Snapper before we could feel the effects of our morning coffee. We then came back closer to shore and fished for the bigger and more aggressive red fish and that was where the action was. We all wondered what Chicago Mike (friend of Mike Salley who came along for the fun) hung into and fought for 10 minutes before it broke his line. We never got a glimpse, but it was big and it was not happy. Before we knew it we had spent the day, caught or limit and enjoyed a perfect day in the Gulf with a cool bunch of fishin' buddies. After that we went to a local restaurant called "The Point" where Clay and the gang there cooked up a mighty mess of what we'd caught and we ate like pigs in a caveman's yard. We took with us a cooler filled with fillets and tomorrow we will feed the band and crew at the next show. I tell you, it is hard work being STYX on the road! |
