02-Aug-96 Rocky mountain high... Colorado fans spent the better part of the evening last night on their feet, singing along or cheering the STYX members onward to the next song at Fiddler's Green in Englewood, just outside Denver. Just as in St. Louis the other night, over 100 teens from the Greely chapter of Bob Meehan's teen sobriety group were invited to the show. During Dennis' opening words to the band, he had signaled to everyone to join him in the spotlight, but Tommy was not there. Dennis had to call to him by name and when he ran over to join the rest of the guys, Dennis asked "What are you looking at?" Tommy replied, "We have some friends over on the hill!" He had been trying to read the letters they were holding up spelling his name. "I was totally distracted!" Shaw said, obviously a bit embarrassed at missing his cue! Later, after the show, Chuck, Tommy and Jeanne met with the teens and Chuck once again was able to express his sincere gratitude for their decision to give up drugs and alcohol. His words were met with cheers and they chanted "We Love Chuck!! We Love Chuck!!" Tommy and Jeanne spoke too and it was clear there was a powerful bond there. Later Dennis, JY, Chuck, Tommy and Jeanne, and Keith Marks videotaped a congratulatory salute to Bob for his 25 year convention which will be held in Phoenix on Labor Day weekend. Members will be unable to attend because of the STYX tour being extended. STYX will be entertaining about 400 more sober teens as their guests when they perform in Phoenix on August 17th. THE FUN NEVER ENDS!!! Bob Meehan had been on the road with STYX all week and during the days off went on his first white water rafting trip with Tommy and Jeanne, down the Arkansas River in Buena Vista, Colorado. "I am STILL buzzing!" he exclaimed the next day at the concert |
