13-Sep-96 Haven't we been here before... The Moline Airport DID look familiar. On a 3 day break before STYX performed in nearby Burlington earlier in the tour, I stayed here in Moline near this airport rather than fly home to CA. I went to every little and big antique store around, cruised the farm roads, and met lots of really nice local folks. Today as Dennis, Todd, Jeanne, Bubba and I stood outside waiting to load up the suitcases and head for The Jumer Hotel, we were greeted by many local people who already had their tickets and they wished us a great show tonight. This part of the country seems so unaffected by the social ills we all have come to accept in so many major cities. The day of our first show I left my computer case at the airport in Cedar Rapids and the hotel driver who picked us up assured me, "This is Iowa. Someone will turn it in, if it is not still sitting where you left it." Darned if he wasn't right... Looking forward to seeing thousands of these fine people tonight! The show last night was our last outdoor concert of the tour. It was cold enough to see your breath (at first I thought smoke was wafting across the stage until I realized it was a cloud coming from my own face!) and it took my fingers some extra effort to play the right notes but what a great Michigan audience. I kept wondering how the other guys were doing, but I didn't hear any "clams" so they must have been okay! It was one of those fun, anything-might-happen shows and we had several good laughs with the STYX fans there, at the Allegan County Fair STYX show. Fair shows are always a riot, and this crowd, living near Lake Michigan, was well prepared for the cool weather. Our only regret was not having time to go around to the rides and exhibits. Thank you Michigan for a fun night in Allegan |
