30-Aug-96 We love Quebec... STYX performed their second sold out show at the Coliseum in Quebec City last night. This is the part of the world that views STYX as part of their landscape, and their hospitality is second to none. During "Suite Madame Blue," Dennis received such an ovation after he sang "You conquered the world and more..." that he had to wait over a minute for the crowd to quiet down enough to continue. Song after song received such thunderous response that Charlie (this was his first time seeing STYX perform in the French Canadian province) was standing at the monitor board with a strange look of disbelief and pride in his band. Dennis won the French-speaking band member award, unchallenged. He spoke to the audience in French for most of the evening, no doubt endearing the fans even more than they were already. No one was surprised when the gag about the guitar getting real small and the organ shrinking left the audience a bit confused. But when it came to understanding the music--NO PROBLEM! It was the first time for some of the band members and their families to actually get out at see the city. Everywhere you turned in the old part of town you would see Chuck and Gary, Tommy and Jeanne, Todd and Keith as well as lots of the guys from KANSAS. It was a perfect afternoon to tour Battlefield park, the boardwalk, the shops, the restaurants and to enjoy the view of the bay as well as the European-style architecture. It is one of those places that is difficult to capture in the confines of a camera viewfinder. Now, on to Toronto! |
