Life Is A Beach... TRUMP 29 CASINO
Hello Friends, Thank you to everyone who came to last night's show in the desert town of Coachella, CA, a few miles outside Palm Springs. Our favorite STYX CHYX helped to make it another unforgettable night in STYXworld. Thanks also goes to Ronee and Andrea Pena who came all the way from Los Angeles. It was the first time Ronee had gotten a chance to hear the baritone Jazzmaster he built for me, and I was thrilled because I knew he was gonna love it. Many of you probably recognized him from our site. He also delivered "Li'l J" to me, the standard tuning brother Jazzmaster to my baritone. It's a dandy, with a capital D! Mike Casey and I have been the best of friends since I had a home in Palm Desert back in the late 70's. Mike taught me how to play tennis and has been there for me through thick and thin. I've watched his son Christopher go from a little tyke to fine full grown man with a great life of his own. Bobby Riccio and his family have kept me feeling Italian with the insanely delicious food from "Riccio's," their restaurant in Palm Springs that has been a favorite of people in the entertainment industry for decades, including Frank Sinatra, Robert Evans, Andy Williams, Harry Caray and an endless list of others who know where to go for the real thing. Bobby and his brothers and sisters took over from his Uncle Tony years ago and the tradition lives on. He set us up with a box of food for the bus ride back to Los Angeles that included two different pasta dishes, fish, calamari, a selection of home made bread, and two quarter wheels of Italian cheese that had us in a mild quandary as to how we would divvy it up once we got home. (I pledged to get it cut into threes and to get Ricky and Todd their shares). Not to bore you with food stories, but you have to understand, dining on Riccio's food is almost a religious experience! If anybody noticed a big Band-Aid on my right thumb, it was from a home improvement accident last Monday. I overestimated my ambidexterity when scoring a large piece of plastic sheeting and slipped and poked my thumb really good with a razor. I should have gotten stitches, but as an old horseman I knew in Michigan used to like to say, "It's a long way from my heart" and instead Jeanne put a good pressure bandage on it and it's healing nicely. You ever notice how whenever you ding yourself up, that this seems to be the spot where your friends give you a good smack, or you'll bump into a doorway as you pass through? Last night at the end of the show I was handing out a few guitar picks to people at the foot of the stage when one eager young lady grabbed my hand and dug her fingernail into my bandaged thumb. "Yikes!" I said to myself, but also I was pleased to see that it had healed enough that it didn't open back up. It's the little things in life, isn't it? And apparently, there really is always a bright side... Jeanne and I couldn't resist heading to the beach today. Us and a quite a few like-minded others laid out on blankets and towels and listened to the sound of the waves, watched kids, dogs, surfers, couples of all ages, shapes and sizes all enjoying the perfect day. Clyde lost two sticks in the pounding surf, having decided early on that he didn't care for getting engulfed by the waves. You've never seen happier dogs than when they are at the beach. A dog's life indeed But now it's time to head back home, catch up on a few CSI's and NYPD's on tiVo, and call it a day. I'm still buzzing from the gig last night. Thanks again to everyone who made it so. Next STYX stop, FLORIDA! TS
