Hello Friends,

Greetings from Houston. You'll get a grin out of this at my expense--I slept in on the bus this morning when we arrived at the hotel. When I finally rolled out of my bed, brewed up a cup of tea and had a bowl of cereal, I was ready to grab my computer bag and my other bag of do-dads and head for my room. I looked out the front windows and it was clear we were not in front of the hotel but behind some windowless three or four story building with no other cars parked nearby. There were lots of trees on the other side of the lot we were in, and I could see a two lane road. There was no obvious route to the hotel, so I called out tour manager, but his phone was off. The hotel envelope had my key, a room list and the address of the hotel, but no number. So rather than tote my bags around on some random trek, I left all my stuff there and took a hike around the area until I found the hotel, came back got my stuff and was on my way. Out my room's window it was clear we were out in a heavily wooded area. "I guess this means no Starbuck's for me today," I thought to myself

A couple of hours later I figured I would head down to the lobby to see if I could buy a book or something in the gift shop, and on the elevator met a nice family who is here for a wedding. I posed for photos, signed a couple of autographs for the teenage girls. One of the girls gave me a wadded up pair of her socks. I'm still not sure why, but I've learned not to be surprised by much out here. But I digress... On the elevator, which was on the other side of the hall from the one I rode up earlier, I realized that there was a big mall, a movie theater and all sorts of other signs of civilization just across the parking lot from the hotel. If I had looked to my left as I rounded the building looking for the hotel lobby which was on my right, I would have seen it, and been able to head over for lunch, shopping, contact with the human race and other things that keep things interesting out here. Just a simple turn of my head and my day would have started off on a completely different tack.

Last night in Dallas, it was another fine Texas night in the beautiful amphitheater there. Texas fans are well-loved and famously regarded by bands like us, and have been for decades. Texas men have good reason to be smiling, as good looking as Texas women are. We're always pleasantly surprised to see such a beautiful audience.

I had dinner before the show with several Dallas PD officers who were fans. I enjoy hanging with the men in blue. They've always got great stories and many of them are quite often, as these officers were, great fans of ours and very knowledgeable about STYX. I'm always flattered by that.

Now it's only a couple of hours before we head over to the gig. See you there!
