Spokane...
July 12, 2004
Hello Friends,
We're off today in Spokane, WA. We flew here from Oklahoma City yesterday.
Band and crew were on two flights (OK City to Denver, Denver to Spokane)
that took us most of the day to complete. It was still daylight when
we landed in Spokane even though when I called my wife in Los Angeles
she said it was dark there. We're that far north now. It's been a while
since we were here in Spokane and we're all heading out to explore
the area today. I just had breakfast with some of our crew downstairs
and thought I'd stop back up in my room and post a photo so you could
see where we are now.
In a week we'll all be enjoying a two week break, and we'll really
be spread out. Some in Europe, others in the Caribbean, Hawaii and
other exotic locales. You'd think everyone would want to stay home
and sleep in their own beds but this is a gang who loves to see the
world and does not look at our day to day traveling as laborious. Quite
the contrary, I think we've all got a nomadic characteristic in common
that keeps us constantly wanting to see what's over the horizon.
I had to leave my guitar and the hard drive with the files of new
music we're working on behind on our bus that's meeting us in Chicago
in a few days, so I'm feeling a bit of withdrawal from it. So, rather
than sit here and scratch, I think I'll hit the streets and seek out
a good cup of local Joe.
Oh yes, if you want to read a nice retrospective on Ray Charles, check
out the current Rolling Stone magazine. In case you were wondering
why we continue to salute Ray with our version of "What'd I Say" in
our shows, this will catch you up. Also a great article on my new favorite
Rock band, Velvet Revolver. Their new CD is an inspiring work that
I can't wait to get home and blast in my car.
See you soon!
Tommy Shaw
