STYX ROCKED The BOAT!

ROCK N ROLL HOLIDAY CRUISE
Photo:Jeanne Shaw Hello Friends,
Well, after months of wondering, "What have we gotten ourselves
into with this cruise thing?" we finally went to Cozumel and
met Ricky, Chuck and Tim, our manager and his wife Cindy, as well
as our crew on board the huge ship to find out for ourselves. To
our most pleasant surprise we found the smiliest, happiest gang of
STYX family members I can recall in ages. All rested, all with stories
to tell, photos to back them up and nothing but raves about the experience.
Then we saw the venue and realized it was going to be a good thing
for us as well.
From the moment we boarded and began running into STYX fans, we
realized that this smile-fest was not limited to our own group. It
was the first time Jeanne and I had ever been that close to, much
less on board one of these mighty floating micro-cities. The rehearsal
went just as smooth as any we have done on dry land, and soon we
were lined up at the private reception with over 250 fans. We shook
hands and took several photos with each and every one of them. Some
mentioned, "You must get tired of this..." and you would
think we would, but not a single band member complained. In fact
we were all swept away by the energy of the place.
Next we went back to the venue for a question and answer session,
which was to last 45 minutes. We sat at tables with microphones in
front of each of our chairs and Miami DJ "Sea Bass" fielded
the questions. It went by so fast it's hard to believe it was more
like an hour, but each band member spoke more than a couple of times
and I was very proud of them all. It reminded me what a great group
of band mates we have. Lots of laughs, lots of details, even an a
cappella "All I Want For Christmas" when a fan asked if
we'd do it in the set.
Afterwards everyone except Charlie and Cindy, Chuck and Tim, Ricky
and most of our crew hurried to get off the ship before it sailed
to Grand Cayman where it should still be enroute to as I write. Jan
and Lawrence stood on the balcony of our beach hotel and watched
as the ship left Cozumel lit up light George Burns' last birthday
cake.
It was yet another surreal day in the Book of STYX.
To all of you still on board, we raise our glasses to you for trusting
us this far. We were proud (and relieved!) to see that it was every
bit as cool as it was promised to be. Have fun tonight at the Captain's
Ball, and enjoy yourselves for the rest of the ride.
See you back on terra firma!
