LINCOLN CITY, OR
SEPTEMBER
10, 2004
Hello Friends,
We arrived Lincoln City around 2:30 this morning after a slight delay
at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank. Jeanne, Daniel and I had the exit row
on both sides of the aisle to ourselves so we spread out, caught up
on how we'd spent our Labor Day holidays, then Daniel and I went to
work trying to solve the Alaska Airlines crossword puzzle before arriving.
It was a daisy and between the two of us we managed about 90 per cent
of it before landing in Portland.
The driver of the limo must have thought we we're either antisocial
or nuts because we only asked him to take our luggage and we rented
a car and followed him back to Lincoln City, about 2 1/2 hours to the
west. I explained when we pulled into the hotel that Jeanne and I were
taking a drive down the coast so we needed a one way car and he seemed
relieved to know we weren't so nutty after all.
When we checked in we immediately looked out the back door of our
room to see and hear the mighty Pacific nipping at the sand below.
There was plenty of ambient light spilling out for us to at least see
the white capped waves coming ashore. The beach is always a mystery
when you arrive at night, and this was no exception. That's why I included
the photo which I took from our room this morning. It's not the view
straight ahead, which itself is silly, staggering, and intoxicating
in itself, but when you look up to the north you see these majestic
cliffs, which remind me of Big Sur, a few hundred miles south of here.
For us it's especially exiting because in all our years we have never
explored the Oregon coast and so to see something like this for the
first time is a real treat.
We plan to record "I Am The Walrus" while we are here. We
have been told by several radio programmers that they would put it
on the air if we gave it to them so that's exactly what we're gonna
do. We love playing it, Lawrence sounds great singing it, and why not
give radio something they can play in their weird, "we aren't
allowed to play anything new by a Classic Rock Band" formats?
So, it's already been worth suiting up for and the day has just begun.
I hope you're reading this from your hotel room here, because otherwise
you are missing out, big time!
