Styx Follows VH1 Outing With Headlining Dates

MAY 7, 2004

STYX MEDIA ALERT

May 07, 2004 02:13 PM - Styx (news | tickets), which has launched a co-headlining run with Peter Frampton (news | tickets), is plotting a series of headlining dates that will follow the current outing.

Dubbed the VH1 Classic Summer Hits tour, the jaunt with Frampton--which also features show-openers Nelson--is scheduled to wrap up in late June. Styx will squeeze in a few June headlining shows during some of that tour's off days, and has lined up post-VH1-tour headlining dates that are scattered into early October.

According to a message that Styx guitarist/singer Tommy Shaw posted on the band's website on Friday (5/7), the group's inaugural VH1 Classic Summer Hits tour performance in Cleveland on Thursday (5/6) went better than he expected.

"Our set came off virtually without a hitch, unheard of for first nights," Shaw wrote. "We're very pleased with the new set design. Even our designer, Jeff Ravitz, told me on the way out last night that he likes it better than anything we've done in years, and from Jeff that's a big compliment, especially since he's been there with us for over two decades and in that time become an Emmy Award winning designer."

On Tuesday (5/4), Styx released "Come Sail Away: The Styx Anthology," a retrospective set featuring 35 digitally remastered tracks culled from throughout the band's 30-year career. The album includes a "deluxe booklet, many rare photos," and "an essay with detailed credits," according to a press release.
