Missoula Rocked HARD!

ADAMS CENTER
MISSOULA, MT
SEPTEMBER 18, 2004

Hello Friends,

How cool was last night's show in Missoula? It was like an oil well bubbling up and rattling the ground before finally blowing sky high. The crescendo was exciting to be a part of as our love affair with Missoula went from a peck on the cheek to a run around the bases. We all needed a cigarette as the last notes of "Renegade" played out and we took our final bow.

It was especially fun for us because we had the time to move the set along at a more relaxed pace and even included three covers during the encore. We'd spent the afternoon recording an alternate version of our medley for our archives and so we were good and warmed up by showtime. Also by deconstructing the medley we found a few flaws which we quickly remedied. It's easy and quite common for things to get out of whack in little subtle areas as we play night after night. One of us will take a little liberty here, another will take one there, and if we're not diligent, we can end up with clashing liberties without knowing it because with what we listen to for monitoring, we might not hear exactly what every member is playing. Any way, we found a couple of these subtle anomalies and tidied them up--not that anyone else would notice, because they were so small, but it made us feel better as we played it last night and to us it was a good thing.

For the first time since we've been paying close attention to the balance of new and old fans, the first timers outnumbered the loyal fans who've been coming for years. To be fair, the gig was at the University of Montana campus, but there is clearly something going on with teen-age fans discovering STYX music, and we are loving it. To experience the enthusiasm from teen-age fans again at this point in our career is like going back in time to relive days long gone. Teen-agers discovering you is an exciting thing. We loved it way back then and we're loving it now. Don't worry, we still love our loyal fans who we have watched grow up. We have history and nothing can change the bond we have. But even you'd have to admit the excitement level was contagious and hard not to get caught up in, huh?

At any rate, we had a great time in Montana, incidentally the home of Gibson's Acoustic guitar factory in Bozeman. It's a slice of heaven in more ways than one...

Next stop, Albuquerque, New Mexico!!!

TS
