Star Jam in Las Vegas
DECEMBER 4, 2004
Hello Friends,
Last night At Green Valley Ranch Hotel and Casino I joined Toby Keith,
Charlie Pride, Lone Star, John Eddie, Yellow Brick Road, my friends
Night Ranger and lots of other killer musicians for an "All Star
Jam" benefit concert hosted by our the amazing Judy Alberti and
friends.
Earlier in the day Jeanne and I had flown from Cozumel to Mexico City
where, after a three hour layover, we flew straight to Las Vegas and
went straight to sound check/rehearsal, then a steak and lobster dinner
so all the musicians could meet and get to know each other a little
before doing the show. It was a great way to, as Larry "The Cable
Guy" says, "Gitter Done!"
Jack and the boys learned "Blue Collar Man" and "Renegade" which
I performed with them, and then hung around to do "Good-bye" with
them before Toby Keith came out and we did "Take It Easy" by
the Eagles, then Charlie Pride joined us to "Sweet Home Alabama" before
we sang his hit "Is Anybody Going To San Antone." One last
song, "Mama Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys" and
we back in the dressing room, Toby, Jack and me trading Ted Nugent
stories. Toby had some great ones from his recent tour of Iraq with
Ted. Jack's and mine are classic tales, but when trading Nugent stories,
there is always a common thread of continuity which somehow bonds those
of us who tell them in a Nuge-tastic way. I hadn't seen Charlie Pride
since we both performed in Charlie Daniel's All Star Jam in 1985. He
didn't recall it and I just barley did, but that's not uncommon. (Steven
Tyler and Joe Perry don't remember working with STYX in 1977). So many
shows does a career make!
The guys and girls behind the night's performance were the best of
the best and I was proud to be here, glad to have been invited. Thanks
Judy! I'm really glad we came.
Next up, STYX heads for New York to play Q104's Christmas Party.
Happy Holidaze!
