Today In The Life...

BIG FRESNO FAIR
FRESNO, CA
OCTOBER 6, 2004

Hello Friends,

It's the morning after our Fresno concert and I am writing from my desk at home. Most of us drove to Los Angeles after the show last night and will spend the afternoon in the studio remixing a live recording of our STYX Medley we recorded live recently. Already stations in Los Angeles, Houston, San Francisco and Chicago are beginning to play our live recording of "I Am The Walrus" and we look forward to also offering them the medley soon.

Happy Birthday to Ricky Phillips today. Ricky seems like he's always been with us, and if you've gotten to know him you realize what I mean. He's the ultimate band mate and we look forward to many more happy birthdays with him.

Since I last wrote we played Arrowfest in Irvine, CA and it was so amazing I was literally speechless. That's why I didn't write about it. I hope you were there so you saw for yourself. It was a spiritual experience that transcends my laptop's ability to explain.

Last night was tremendous too, and we made the absolute best of every minute of our 95 minute set there. On the way we watched a video tape of Brian Wilson's "Beautiful Dreamer" documentary that is playing now on Showtime. As you know, Taylor Mills, aka Mrs. Todd Sucherman, sings in Brian's band and they have just released their CD of Brian's resurrected "SMILE" which was almost a lost masterpiece. With the help of his band, lyricist Van Dyke Parks and others, Brian finished this historical work of art and is now on tour. The documentary lays out the whole story and if you get a chance to see it, do yourself a favor and learn about one of the most important found pages of musical history in our lifetime.

...It's later in the afternoon now and since I finished the previous paragraph Jeanne and I attended Billy Bob Thornton's ceremony on Hollywood Blvd., unveiling his star on the Walk of Fame, right in front of the Kodak Theater, the new home of the Academy Awards. His mother, brother, and three limousines of friends were along side to witness the sweet event hosted by unofficial Hollywood Mayor Johnny Grant. Friday Night Lights producer Brian Grazer and director Peter Berg along with others from the film were there and Brian gave a touching speech to honor Billy before he accepted and the star was revealed. It's a well-deserved award befitting our multitalented genius friend from Arkansas. Congratulations BBT!

Now JY, Lawrence, Gary and I are working on remixing our medley in the studio before we head up to Modesto for tomorrow's show there. No rust growing on anyone here.

Life is good, the elections will soon be over and that madness will be off the table for another couple of years, making life even better.

As my friend Ted Nugent likes to say, "Live it up!"

TS
